Multiculturalism Week in British Columbia: November 13 - 19, 2011
To honor “Multiculturalism Week” in BC, Minister of State for Multiculturalism, Harry Bloy send this message:
Dear friends,
Multiculturalism has become a way of life for us here in B.C. Diverse cultures from more than 180 countries throughout the world enrich British Columbia.
B.C.’s rich tradition of multiculturalism began before Europeans and other cultures arrived, with First Nations whose diverse languages and cultures were the first example of multiculturalism.
To celebrate the wondrous diversity of our province, British Columbia will proclaim Multiculturalism Week, November 13th to 19th, 2011.
As well, we are launching the BC People Book – a stunning visual representation of the people that make our province so great. You can view it online at www.bcpeople.ca.
During this week, as Minister of State for Multiculturalism, it will be my privilege to attend a variety of meetings and events to hear the stories, successes and challenges of B.C.’s diverse communities. It is my sincere hope that you can embrace Multiculturalism week as your time to shine, celebrate your accomplishments and stand tall as you are recognized for helping build a dynamic province with opportunities for families to grow and prosper.
I encourage all of you to spread the word of this exciting time throughout your communities, both online and off. Follow @BCGovNews on Twitter for regular updates, links and videos you can pass on to your followers and friends.
Multiculturalism strengthens our province and puts us on the map for being a society that values inclusion and cultural diversity. This recognition is vital to the BC Jobs Plan, as our Premier seeks to expand on our trade relationships overseas, bringing family-supporting jobs to every community in the province.
You have helped build this province, powered the economy and furnished it with a vibrant culture. There are plenty of accomplishments to be proud of, so I urge you to embrace this time as an opportunity to celebrate.
I look forward to participating in as many community events around the province as I can and look forward to celebrating with you.
Thanks,
Harry Bloy
